Understanding Weaving Drafts and Basic Weaves
Instructor: Loretta Stacy
When: Wednesday, October 14 AND 21, 2026
Time: 1P to 4P
Cost: $98 (Students are also asked to purchase a book ahead of time - see below - and to bring $3 to class to cover handouts provided by the instructor)
This will be a 2 part class for intermediate and advanced weavers. The first class will cover understanding weaving drafts. The second class will cover basic weaves.
Students will learn to read a draft and do drawdowns so they can learn to make their own designs in the future.
We will use the book, The Complete Book of Drafting for Handweavers by Madelyn van der Hoogt. Students may purchase this book from various weaving suppliers online, including:
https://www.yarnbarn-ks.com
https://www.eugenetextilecenter.com
https://woolery.com.
The cost of the book is approximately $25. This is a good reference book to have in your weaving library.
There will be an additional $3 charge for handouts payable to the instructor on the first day of class.
Students should bring to class:
- The Complete Book of Drafting for Handweavers
- A good pencil
- Eraser
- Colored pencils for the second-class period.
