An introductory weaving class where students will learn the basics of 4-shaft weaving on a floor loom. Students will learn how to read a draft and plan a project and will complete a project of their own choosing during the scheduled class times.

Learn weaving techniques with Diane Nelson, an artist and gifted weaver as well as the director of the Heart of the Lakes Weaving program.

Fall Harvest Bowl Basket Weaving
Wednesday, October 15, 11A-4P
Cost: $58 + $40 materials fee (due to instructor the day of class)

Join in this opportunity for all weavers - no experience necessary. Learn to weave this generously sized basket that starts with a round oak base. The rustic smoky brown spokes and natural hues are topped off with a spray of artificial bittersweet berries. Finished basket size is approximately 9” across x 5.5” high.

* Please bring an old hand towel for wet materials as well as a bag lunch and something to drink since the class runs through the lunch hour. 

** Materials fee of $40 due the day of class to the instructor.

Introduction to the Ancient Craft of Nalbinding

The Ancient Craft of Nalbinding          
This ancient yarn technique was used by people across the world, from Egypt and Peru, to the Vikings in Scandinavia. It predates knitting and crochet, and has recently been considered an endangered heritage craft. 

This class covers a short introduction of the craft and its history. Students will learn a basic nalbinding stitch and basic shaping skills needed to create simple items like hats. 

This is a beginner level class for adults. Knitting and/or crochet skills are not necessary, but can be helpful.     

MATERIAL FEES TO BE PAID TO INSTRUCTOR DAY OF CLASS:
Material fee of $15 - includes 2- 50 gm skeins of wool yarn with a plastic yarn needle and stitch marker. A limited supply of wooden nalbinding needles may also be available for separate purchase.   

Teacher Biography         
Kasha Linn, owner of Kasha's Knits and fiber artist based in Saint Cloud, MN., has been knitting and crocheting since she was a kid. She learned to spin and dye yarn as a young adult, and continues collecting new yarn and needle hobbies! The most recent being dance costume design with bead and sequin embroidery. She lives in a small century old farmhouse with her husband, 2 daughters and black lab.

No experience necessary, materials provided! Come draw with Holly ... yes, you CAN draw, you just haven't been. Let's change that! 

Holiday Krokbragd
2-Day Class!
Friday, November 14, 5P-8P AND
Saturday, November 15, 9A-1P

Krokbragd is a weft faced weave that makes a thick dense fabric. We will celebrate the upcoming holiday season by making a holiday themed wall hanging. We will warp, weave and finish our project in this 2-day class. You will choose your colors and designs that you want (picture just one example). This is a class for intermediate and advanced weavers.

Learn to weave with Diane Nelson, an artist and gifted weaver as well as the director of the Heart of the Lakes Weaving program. Join in the fun as part of the growing cohort of weavers at AATC!
